Position Description: Network Administrator
Position Summary
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and the Green Bank Observatory (GBO) are diverse and prestigious research facilities that play a vital role in the study of the universe. The NRAO and GBO are seeking a qualified Network Administrator to provide networking infrastructure support for Telescope and Observatory operations. The Network Administrator will report to the Network Operations Manager. The successful candidate will help administer, troubleshoot, and upgrade the GBO and NRAO LANs, as well as communicate and troubleshoot the internet connection to Internet-2 through local ISPs and the University of West Virginia.
The position will be based in Green Bank, WV and the successful candidate must be eligible for employment in the United States. After a training and orientation period, a partial telework arrangement may be considered in accordance with the NRAO telework policies. The GBO Jansky Lab is located in Green Bank, WV: a small and rural town well known for its outdoor recreation opportunities. Local favorite activities include (but are not limited to) mountain biking, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and other recreational activities, indoor and outdoor. Green Bank is located within the Monongahela National Forest, which is comprised of 2,656 square miles of federally protected land within the Appalachian Mountains. Green Bank is also well known for the National Radio Quiet Zone, which provides radio frequency protection for the extremely sensitive Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT) and other telescopes on the GBO site.

To manage the network at the GBO and NRAO, the Network Administrator duties will include (but are not limited to):
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits at a desk, uses a personal computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment; the ability to climb stairs is required. The employee is required to bend, reach, and must have finger dexterity. The employee is required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. May occasionally work at high altitudes. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
