PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

Position Summary: This staff member will work on the Gainesville campus in the Ivester House branch of the Brenau Center for Counseling and Psychological Services as well as in assigned partner and umbrella agencies. The Ivester House is located at 17 6th Street in Gainesville, GA. The Doctoral Psychology Intern will provide clinical, consulting, and supervisory services as well as participate in didactic training.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Be a doctoral student in the final year of a Health Service Psychology program (including Clinical and Counseling Psychology programs)
  • Must have already successfully passed the proposal stage of the dissertation or doctoral project
  • Must have completed 300 direct intervention hours and 50 direct assessment hours some of those with children or adolescents
  • Must have passed doctoral comprehensive exams
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups
  • Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • Works under the direction of the Doctoral Internship Coordinator; reports to Doctoral Internship Coordinator and/or delegated supervisors as assigned
  • Provides therapy and assessment services at the Ivester House clinic as well as through various clinical rotations
  • Provides consultation and supervision services through the Ivester House and clinical rotation sites
  • Attends required supervision sessions with Doctoral Internship Coordinator and other supervisors
  • Completes all required paperwork, including therapy notes and assessments reports, editing as needed based on supervisor feedback, in a timely manner
  • Attends required didactic trainings
  • Tracks all internship hours in Time2Track
  • Has working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google suite applications. Ability to learn other systems (e.g., Canvas) as needed.
  • Maintains professional appearance and appropriate professional boundaries
  • Follows all ethical guidelines and applicable state laws
  • Maintains confidentiality and follows HIPPA and FERPA guidelines
  • Assists with professional development and continuing education events as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:
May provide clinical supervision to graduate students, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.

Work Hours:
37.5 hours per week generally during normal working hours. Hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the Ivester House and other partner and umbrella sites.

Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Travel to various partner and umbrella sites is required.
