\nIn this dynamic and rewarding role, you will provide exceptional post-operative care on 6 South – the Cardiovascular, Renal Transplant, and Surgical Specialty Acute Care Unit. This 43-bed medical-surgical unit specializes in the care of adult patients recovering from Cardiothoracic, Vascular, and Gastric Bypass/Weight Loss surgeries, as well as kidney transplant donors and recipients. The unit also supports patients requiring telemetry or oxygen monitoring, including therapies such as CPAP, BIPAP, and Optiflow. Nurses on this unit are experienced in managing glycemic control, vasoactive medications, and hemodynamic monitoring. Our telemetry beds allow for the administration of anti-arrhythmic medications, electrolyte replacement, and continuous cardiac monitoring.

The final job title and rate of pay will be based upon both individual qualifications and candidate choice. The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $33.75

The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Professional Staff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.
Develop and maintain productive relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment to patients and colleagues. Recognize cultural differences and foster healthy relationships while balancing work and personal life. Model safe work practices and effective time management, promptly communicating any safety hazards.
\nApply adult learning principles in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff, providing clear guidance throughout the care process and transitions. Support the development of others, potentially serving as a preceptor, and create an environment that encourages feedback and continuous improvement.
\nUtilize the nursing process within the framework of Relationship-Based Care to foster a healing environment. Develop individualized care plans that involve patients as partners and address their holistic needs. Demonstrate critical thinking to identify clinical, social, psychological, and spiritual issues during care episodes. Communicate effectively with care providers to articulate patient conditions and recommend changes in care practices. Ensure comprehensive documentation to facilitate caregiver collaboration.
\nCommit to professional development to enhance practice quality and patient care. Actively engage in unit-based shared governance, support goal setting, and facilitate change to improve care quality and the practice environment. Collaborate as a full partner on the care team, responding to colleagues' needs for support.
\nParticipate in department-specific quality improvement initiatives. Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement to colleagues and management, taking responsibility for enhancing patient satisfaction and care quality. Utilize research and evidence-based practices to inform clinical care, discussing quality improvement opportunities in multidisciplinary rounds and influencing patient care plans.
\n Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
***UPMC offers a variety of flexible options in addition to traditional rotating/flexible shifts, special programs exist to work primarily night shifts or weekend shifts with a premium pay differential. Employees hired as or who choose to transition into one of these programs at a later time must have at least 6 months of nursing experience to qualify and may be required to complete any necessary orientation during regular business hours. *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
