The Opportunity

The Community Services Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing the organization's Community Services programs. This position is also integral to various cross-functional projects, collaborating with departments such as Alternative Payments and the Family Resource Center to deliver comprehensive support to families and child care providers. A key aspect of this role involves the development, facilitation, and delivery of engaging and informative early childhood educational programs, including Parent Cafe sessions, parent education workshops, and provider education workshops on various requested topics within the community.

What you'll be doing:
  • Provide personalized child care referrals (My Child Care Plan) leveraging applicable software, deliver parent education, and connect families with appropriate community resources and services, as funding allows. Offer expert consultation to parents on choosing child care and addressing child development concerns.
  • Maintain and update provider data within the referral databases (My Child Care Plan and MCT), and provide ongoing support and resources to child care businesses.
  • Actively recruit, train, and provide ongoing support to Family Home Child Care (FHCC) Providers and Centers.
  • Stay current with Community Care Licensing Title 22 regulations and remain informed of all provider updates notifications (PINs) for both child care centers and family child care homes.
  • Attend all required agency staff meetings, conferences, and professional development trainings.
  • Create, facilitate, and deliver engaging and informative Parent Cafe sessions, parent education workshops, and provider education workshops on various requested topics within the community
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding and documentation of local community resources available for families and child care providers.
  • Help maintain and update the Community Services Team Wiki and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) as needed.
  • Outsource and support trainers for professional development, as required by various contracts such as First 5
  • Travel to various locations for training, site visits, and community events as required.
  • Cultivate and maintain open lines of communication with community agencies to understand their evolving needs and explore potential opportunities for collaborative agency-community interaction.
  • Assist parents and child care providers in accessing wrap-around services, including but not limited to Hively programs and services, and essential community resources such as Covered California, CalFresh, Medi-Cal, and housing assistance.
  • Support contract reporting by running reports and analyzing data, as assigned.
  • Assist with and execute contract deliverables for key partners (e.g., First 5 Alameda County, CCRP) and contribute to special projects and events for the Community Services department, as assigned.
  • Meet all contract reporting requirements for contracts, including but not limited to First 5 of Alameda County, including the submission of all required contract reports.
  • Provide backup for the front office administrative team and Family Resource Center as needed.
What you should bring:
  • Associate's (AA) or Bachelor's (BA) degree in child development or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in early childhood education, community services, or a related field
  • Bilingual and fluent in Spanish.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (docs, slides, etc) and MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational and engaging content and deliver workshops, both in person and over Zoom.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems and prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • Ability to build rapport and work effectively with a diverse client community.
  • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively as a vital part of a team, while also being receptive to supervision.
  • Competency in writing clear and concise routine reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with a strong emphasis on active listening.
  • Proven ability to interact positively and professionally with parents, providers, co-workers, and community members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong public speaking and oral presentation skills.
  • Sensitivity to, and experience working with, individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness in problem-solving and program development.
  • Self-starter with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekend events, to meet program needs.
  • Preferred: Experience working with family child care providers or in center-based child care settings.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit at a desk, conference table or in meeting rooms of various configurations for extended amounts of time

This role is eligible for a Hybrid schedule after 3 months of training.
