We have an opportunity at our Washington, D.C. offices in Chicago for a Communications Specialist II on our Advocacy team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our D.C. office, requiring 3 days a week in the office. This role supports the coordination of multiple federal grassroots campaigns targeting the AMA’s key legislative priorities by engaging physician and patient advocates. It oversees the creation of grassroots action alerts, monthly newsletters, informational advocacy-based content, issue based talking points and working with third-party partners on campaign creative and messaging. This role is also responsible for the management of the AMA Advocacy Academy, an online advocate training platform. Essential Functions And Responsibilities Grassroots/Grasstops Programs: Assist with building and maintaining patients’ and physicians’ grassroots/grasstops programs (PAN, PGN, VIP) Advocacy Campaign Coordination Provide support to the Director of Grassroots Advocacy in creating and maintaining AMA’s issue advocacy campaigns. Assist in developing campaign plans, conduct research as needed, interface with third-party partners, and coordinate the execution of approved activities. Coordinate with other Advocacy departments to ensure proper alignment of communication between grassroots teams, lobbyists, and policy teams to ensure advocacy campaigns are calibrated properly. Identify and track key performance indicators (KPIs) that help evaluate campaigns and communicate their value to AMA stakeholders through the creation of advocacy presentations, slides, infographics and other similar content. Coordinate development and implementation of AMA’s grassroots efforts. Ensure email and mobile alerts; online; grassroots talking points; social networks such as Twitter (X), Facebook, Instagram, etc.; state medical society outreach; and mail and phone outreach are all leveraged to communicate with grassroots audiences as appropriate. Grow patient and physician grassroots by assisting Political Affairs team with communication and fulfillment programs and designing and employing recruitment strategies to add to the membership ranks of these networks. Oversee development of new grassroots projects that will facilitate activists’ communications with lawmakers and strengthen their relationship with AMA grassroots programs. May Include Other Responsibilities As Assigned. Candidate Profile: B.A./B.S. in Political Science, Communications or related field. 3+ years’ experience in the field of grassroots issue advocacy with a strong focus on content development. Strong writing skills, particularly in grassroots advocacy communications and campaign implementation. Excellent communication skills, including solid interpersonal skills and effective presentation and public speaking skills. Demonstrated success in planning and organizing advocacy events. Proven advocacy campaign experience. Demonstrated ability to navigate uncertainty and adapt effectively to evolving landscape. Demonstrated ability to react quickly and appropriately in fast-paced situations. Some travel may be required. The salary range for this position is $67,320 - $89,250. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration, geographical location, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
